Eating Kosher food in the school canteen?

Alexandre and Sarah are practicing Jews. Their oldest daughter, Myriam, has just started primary school. Her new school is too far from home, so her parents cannot collect her for lunch. Therefore, she is going to eat in the canteen for the first time.

Myriam loves her new school and she likes her teacher. The only problem is that the canteen does not serve Kosher food. Alexandre and Sarah are scared that their daughter will be forced to eat food that does not comply with Jewish rules.

In this situation, what can they do?

  • There is no religious menu in French school canteens. However, most schools offer a range of meals so that everyone can eat in accordance with their religious beliefs.
  • Alexandre and Sarah can therefore send their daughter to the canteen without worrying. She will decide what she eats in the canteen.
